Urban Sketching - on the path to Shelly Beach

With life's changes I'm becoming time poor for creative play, but I also realise its an integral part to me staying happy. So I'm resolving to combine a variety of trips outdoors or breaks during the day with some quick sketching.

I've invested in a handy little travel kit of watercolour paints, a refillable water pen and a permanent marker (no.3). Today was my first trip out to trial my new kit. I made my way to a spot by the beach to grab a coffee and start drawing and painting.

This one took me an hour all up which I really can't afford just yet. My next ones will have to have less detail and be completed closer to sunrise so that I can fit in everything else for the day!

  1. Love the sketch! I am sorry you have so little time. Have you ever read 'The Creative License' by Danny Gregory? it might be just what you need right now!

    1. Well that's just spooky Kitty! I had added Danny Gregory's book "Everyday Matters" to my cart in Amazon before heading out today - now I know what else to add before I check out!! Thanks for the tip Kitty! Hope you are well. Cx

    1. Thanks Kathryn! I hope I'll be back here again soon with some progressions in my drawings - it feels like a good time to develop these skills, when I've not got any pressures to create other than to feel I'm growing somehow.

    1. ha ha! I'm happy to have drawn that particular pic in an hour.. my problem is learning what NOT to draw, so it doesn't take me so long : ) By drawing less, I'm hoping to complete lots of pictures in shorter spaces of time so that I can feel comfortable setting aside 30 mins a day to create and get closure. Too often I don't do it because I expect it will take 2 hours or so, then I end up perhaps being unproductive or less creative for an hour when in fact I could have sketched an coloured something worthwhile. I went out today and took on again more than I could handle then spent an hour and a half trying to finish it. Tomorrow I think I will draw a car tyre or a letterbox and use a timer!! C x

  4. Hahahaha, good plan. Drawing one thing sounds great. I think I would miss your eye for detail when you would draw more abstract. You could also progress on the animal theme! And in the end...hopefully there will come an age that will allow you some more time ;). The R-E-S-P-E-C-T is staying in that regard! Thumbs up for pursueing creativity even if the conditions aren't optimal!
