Sketching in the wet - Manly Public School.

Stormy, stormy weather with days of rain had brought on the usual cabin fever. So, in our last days of the summer break, we found a cafe with a huge awning where we could sit in shelter and have a choice of buildings to sketch.

I've often thought the old Manly Public School would be a great place to go to school as a child with Manly Beach just a block away. Head straight down the tree lined street you can see in the pic and you'll walk straight into the Pacific Ocean.

  1. Oh my goodness, how did you have the patience and skill to sketch all those bricks? Love your sketch.

    1. Thanks Anne!Fortunately there was not a lot else to do on such a rainy day with the kids so I sat with them and my visiting Mum at the cafe and chatted, enjoying their company whilst building my brick wall ;)

    1. Thanks so much Frances for your kindness! I am very happy to know I have helped you with inspiration to draw. I have always enjoyed drawing but my confidence in the result has only really come about in the last few years and particularly the last few months where I've learnt that drawing everyday (ok - the theory - I'm still not consistent with the practical yet but try!) has boosted my confidence dramatically. Amongst other things I've learnt to draw to please me first and foremost, because drawing everyday is allowing me luxury of not feeling I need recognition from others for every piece I sketch. In addition to this because I know I can start another drawing tomorrow I don't get put off by making a mistake today. I can forget it an move on. So, in turn the skill gets better from this too, and then the confidence benefits from that too! I wish I had learnt this 20 years ago - I think I could have enjoyed drawing so much more. But then this online community has helped so much so I'm just going to embrace what I've learnt recently and be grateful and keep at it. I hope you keep at it too :)
